And It's Not Just the Animals...

In these parts, it's not just the animals that are often fake.

See? We even have fake little boys to slouch- or is he peeing??- in our gardens.
But who's that to his left?

Ah, the classic silhouette of a man in an old-fashioned cap leaning casually on the wall of the garage, smoking a pipe.

I'm sure he's ruminating about life today versus back when he was a lad. I wonder what he thinks about his multi-colored grandson. I bet he never thought he'd see the day when wooden 2-dimensional people would be anything but classic sihouettes!

B is for...

While out running errands, including buying a wedding present for my cousin, Nate pointed up at a well-known store's sign.
Apparently, B stands for Birdie Hotel! You can see nests in both parts of the B.

And above, a shot of one of the residents.

Fake and Faker

I've seen plenty of fake animals and people in yards (and not just in Western Pennsylvania, of course).
However, this was a new one.

So....somebody wants to give the impression that a horse...somehow...got stuck in the small shed or playhouse in his/her yard.
I mean, does that look like a barn to you? At all? Nope, me neither.

This same property also sports:
Yep, a fake bear. On the steps leading to the front door.

And across the street?

Fake geese, naturally!

The Harvard-Yale-Princeton Club of Pittsburgh

Did you know there was a Harvard-Yale-Princeton Club of Pittsburgh?

As you can see, from the other signs, it shares its space. I wonder if it is a small club...

It includes a prettily decorated alleyway right in the downtown area (not too far from the William Penn Hotel).

I especially liked the lamp over the entryway.

It also has a pretty fountain which, sadly, was not running at the time.

And what looks like a metal sculpture of a ship up on top of that brick wall.

The doors were open but we didn't try to sneak in.

Welcome!

Welcome to Wondrously Peculiar, a blog herewith dedicated to showing both the beauties and idiosyncrasies of Western Pennsylvania, as seen through the eyes of a New England-raised girl.
